With the advent of low cost, low power FPGAs such as the LatticeECP3, coupled with the ever increasing performance requirements of signal processing applications, many solutions that have been traditionally implemented in software are now shifting to more hardware-centric solutions. Applications such as wireless communications, Software Defined Radio, medical imaging and SONAR/RADAR are heavily dependent on signal processing, and one of the key functions needed is the CORDIC.
The CORDIC (Coordinate Rotation DIgital Computer) is an iterative convergence algorithm that reduces complex multiplication, greatly simplifying overall hardware complexity. more>> |

Voice over IP (VoIP), as a technology, has come a long way over the past decade. We have 'crossed the chasm', evidenced by the mass-market adoption of VoIP in its various forms.
