To date we have had well
over 3,000 replies to our 2006 DSP
Survey and I would personally
like to thank all those who took part.
It is probably no surprise that TI and Analog Devices dominated
the general purpose fixed point DSP sector, but with over 26%
of the applications citing their use of FPGA and 22%
using an FPGA/DSP combination it seems that
FPGA is easliy holding its ground.
The full results from the survey can be viewed online - so click
more to find out which development boards are most popular, which
operating systems dominate, which design software is favoured,

A
New Architecture For Development Platforms Targeted To Portable
Radio Applications by
Ram Sathappan, Texas Instruments Inc, Maxime Dumas, Lyrtech,

Performance,
power consumption and cost are three critical factors developers
face when designing software defined radios (SDR) for portable
applications. In an attempt to satisfy these requirements,
SDR developers consistently struggle to choose from the array
of hardware and software products currently on the market.
As a result, they often end up with components from multiple,
independent vendors which greatly complicates waveform porting
and system integration. more>>

Transforming
Performance to Safety in Automotive Applications by
Brooke Williams, Zoran Nikolic, Gaganjot Maur, Texas Instruments. |

Active safety and advanced
driver assistance systems (ADAS) are the primary focus of
current efforts to implement improved safety in vehicles.
Touted by automotive analysts as the top new technology for
2010, active safety and ADAS promise either increased accident
avoidance or a reduction in crash severity. High-growth application
areas, with projected unit CAAGRs in excess of 50 percent
over the next five years include lane departure warning
systems (LDWS), drowsiness detection, and night vision. more>> |
