An Introduction to Digital Filters - by Intersil

With analog filters, most engineers are comfortable in the time domain. For example, the operation of an RC lowpass filter can easily be envisioned as a capacitor charging and discharging through a resistor. A digital filter is better conceptualized in the frequency domain. The filter implementation simply performs a convolution of the time domain impulse response and the sampled signal.

This article by Intersil gives a good, brief, and easy to follow, introduction to digital filter design and implementation.  more>>

Video Compression – An Introduction - by Array Microsystems

Still image and digital video data rates are very large, typically in the range of 150Mbits/sec. Data rates of this magnitude would consume a lot of the bandwidth, storage and computing resources.

For this reason, Video Compression standards have been developed to eliminate picture redundancy, allowing video information to be transmitted and stored in a compact and efficient manner.
